The Teacher’s Interview The teaching profession is one field where there exist many job opportunities. There will always remain a need for better quality education and to fulfill this need there will be a requirement for good quality teachers.

There are various courses and qualification certifications that are needed before you can apply for the post of teacher. The job of a Montessori teacher is one that requires you to be creative and innovative while also being patient with the kids. 

Through a Montessori training course you can become a qualified Montessori teacher and apply for a job in any educational institution that accepts such a course as the basis for teaching job. 

Completing a Montessori course and getting the course certificate or degree does not guarantee you a job. You will have to face an interview to prove your credentials as a teacher and ability to handle kids who are entering a school for the first time.

To become a Montessori teacher you will first have to ask yourself whether or not such a job interests you and are you ready to take upon the duties and responsibilities that are part of such a job. 

The job search starts only when you have completed your course or when kindergarten schools come out with job vacancy advertisement. It is then that you can start submitting your resume to the various schools where you would like to apply. 

Each of the schools you apply to will give you a different interview date. They also give a date as to when you can call them to enquire whether or not you have been selected for the first round of the interview process. 

Kindergarten schools then evaluate the resumes that have come to them and have an internal process rejecting and accepting job application forums. Once the review process is complete they will either send you a letter informing you of your interview call up or call you directly for the same.

The first interview is a written test. The test includes general knowledge questions, aptitude test, English grammar test and a math test. The duration of the written interview can be from a one hour test to a two hour test depending on the number of questions.

Some of the common interview questions are:

1. You have a weak student in your class? 

2. How will you make use of Montessori teachings to improve the child?

3. What according to you is an ideal teacher?

4. Explain the idea of teaching the state standards?

Once you have submitted the written test you are usually asked to wait for a further 10 days to hear from them. If the written has been done well then the Montessori school or kindergarten school will give you a call or mail the candidate informing them about their selection for the next round of interview which is a personal interview. 

The personal interview will also test your abilities you teach the class and to test your skills and abilities, many times teachers have been asked to prepare a class demonstration.

You are free to choose the subject of demonstration. The class demonstration is held in a live class with actual Montessori class students seated in the class and you will be asked to interact and teach them using the demonstration material you have brought to the interview. 

The purpose of the interview is to see how well a rapport the teacher can establish with the children and how creative the teacher can be when it comes to giving class lessons. As a teacher the demonstration is a great opportunity to display one’s creativity. 

Make a poster or a cut out of a cow/sheep and use it to show the kids how these animals graze in the countryside and mix is up using a rhyme to go along with the demonstration. The demonstration will be conducted for a period of ten minutes at maximum.

Then you are asked to proceed to the personal interview with the management. During the interview you should keep your composure, you will be many questions and how well you respond to them will decide your selection.

Some common interview questions are:

1. Tell us about your self.

2. Why would you be interested in a job at our school?

3. Have you applied for a teacher’s job at another school?

4. If you are offered a better job after receiving an appointment letter from our school what will you do?
