When Your Life Seems Hard To Live

When Your Life Seems Hard To Live

A professor is standing in front of a philosophy class and has some things at his desk.

As class started, without saying a word, he picked up a large empty mayonnaise jar and began to fill it with golf balls.

Then he said to his students, is the jar full? The student answered "Yes!"

Then the professor took a box of coral and poured it into the jar. He shook lightly. The corals came in, filling the void between the golf balls.

Then he asked his students, was the jar full? They agreed that the jar was full.

Next the professor took a box of sand and spread it into the jar. Of course the sand covered everything. The professor once again asked if the jar was full?

The disciples unanimously said, “Yes!”

The professor then brewed two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand.

The students laughed…

“Now,” said the professor as the laughter died down, “I want you to understand that this jar represents your life.”

“Golf balls are the things that matter – God, family, children, health, friends and companions. If everything is lost and only them remain, then your life is still full.”

“Corals are everything else, like your job, house and car.”

“Sand is other things – trifles.”

“If you put the sand in the jar first,” continued the professor, “then there will be no room for the corals or for the golf balls. The same will happen in your life.”

"If you spend your energy on trivial things, you won't have room for the things that are important to you"

"So..."

"Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. health check-up. Take your partner out to dinner. There will always be time to clean the house, and fix the car or furniture."

"Pay attention to the golf balls first – The things that really matter. Set your priorities. Last but not least, take care of the sand."

One of the students raised his hand and asked, "What does the coffee that was poured earlier represent?"

The professor smiled, "I'm glad you asked. That's to show you, even though your life seems so full, there's always room for a cup of coffee with friends" :-)
