What is performance? This question usually arises in an organizational area, be it an organization in a school, college, or even in a company. This question seems to arise because there are still many Indonesian people who do not fully understand the meaning of performance. Especially for ordinary people who work in an agency only based on their physical strength to get a salary.

Therefore, it is necessary to provide counseling or a process of providing understanding from the management regarding the importance of the community in understanding the meaning and practice of performance itself. In this way, in the future they can make a good effort at work and contribute according to what they have earned or what will be obtained in the future.

What is Performance?

To improve the quality of oneself as an employee while at the same time increasing the company's ability to develop an economic and trade system in the realm of global trade or industry, it is necessary to have a truly qualified understanding of what performance is and how everyone practices good performance within a company.

This definition is also very important to understand. Employees or employees in a company can treat their work not as a mere sacrifice to get a salary, but as a job that is liked and can be well sought after so as to provide good performance results later.

Although each company has its own performance system in enforcing work, the understanding of performance for employees is basically the same, namely the orientation aimed at both the employee and the company.

Basically, employee performance in a company is closely related to company management. A good company can certainly manage its employees or employees to have good performance so that what is produced from their work is also good. 

This encourages companies to not only advance the selling point of the company itself, but also advance the employees who work in it. For this reason, many companies apply certain employee quality standards in order to achieve the company's targets in the business world, industry, and so on.

The standard that is usually owned by the company is more to the educational background of qualified employees such as college education or at least leaving high school for some companies such as factories and franchise shops.

The standards made by the company are certainly not merely to show the existence of caste or differences between people with high education and low education, but to support the company's work system so that the position of employees can be in accordance with what is needed by the company.

For example, to become a staff manager, one must not only have the standard out of college. But, you must also have experience in managing something so that it produces something that is also a target or in accordance with the goals of a company organization.

Thus, it can be concluded that the understanding of employee performance is something that affects how much an employee or employee of a company is able to contribute in accordance with what he gets from the company. In addition, how much the company can develop itself through the performance of these employees.

Performance Supporting Factors

Apart from being defined as individual abilities, employee performance in a company also affects how the team in a company works so as to produce something from the combined performance between these employees. An assessment carried out by a company on its employees needs to be done to support the quality of employee performance and increase employee work motivation to be even better.

However, there are also determinants or supporting performance factors that affect the employee's work system. The following are the things that need to be considered by the company:

  • Leadership.
  • The company's dependence on employees.
  • Good relationship between superiors and subordinates.
  • Culture that is built within a company.
  • Improve the ability and knowledge of employees in matters relating to the company.
  • Good job appraisal system.
  • The character possessed by the company and its employees.

Meanwhile, there are also obstacles that can be a problem in the employee performance system in a company. So, leaders also still need to consider these things so that the company does not get carried away when one of the employees experiences the following things.

  • Loss of confidence at work.
  • Loss of motivation to work.
  • Loss of loyalty in working in the company.
  • Number of absences.
  • Slow at work.
  • Lazy at work.

Ways to Get Good Performance

Based on the things mentioned above, of course companies need to consider many things before hiring employees. Ability and character are needed so that the company's performance is maintained properly so that it can produce good things as well.

One way that can be taken by the company to get good performance is to carefully select the parties who will later become employees or employees in the company. For example, prospective applicants must have at least two years of work experience in the field the company is looking for.

This will be a benchmark for how much the potential applicant's ability to do the job. How long can he survive in a condition until he finally decides to leave the job.

This is done so that the company does not suffer losses in terms of time and finances. Likewise, prospective workers will not feel a loss because they do work that they like or are in accordance with their interests as well as their fields and abilities.

Methods of improving the quality of performance

To improve the quality of performance of employees or employees in a company, of course, real action is needed from the company in order to overcome various shortcomings, obstacles, and be able to explore the advantages possessed by employees. This is usually done in different ways, depending on the work system and company outing.

Good companies usually carry out a system of working outside or temporarily refreshing to restore the energy possessed by employees so that they can improve their work ethic again. This is very necessary to avoid feeling bored due to working too often and doing the same thing in a company for a long time.

Activities outside the office can be carried out in open arenas, both natural facilities and things that can bring back the fun of employees in their activities in the office later. The company usually carries out an outing system in a nature tourism vehicle to make the minds and feelings of the employees calmer.

Unfortunately, this system only applies to companies that have few employees. Meanwhile, companies with a very large number of employees can only motivate them by providing overtime pay or additional money. This will actually make employees more tired because they spend too much time working.

So, return the question of what is performance to company leaders so that they can manage their employees well, produce quality work results, and are indeed proud of all company staff.
