In the post about how to choose the right career, I forgot to mention one thing. What if after all the planning and thinking one ends up in a career they don’t like? I will say not to worry.
A lot of people dramatically change their career and there have been some famous examples of it. We will have a look at some of them. Probably it will inspire us if we are stuck in a career we don’t love.
2. Rajnikanth bus conductor to superstar
The credits of his film mention him as ‘Superstar Rajinikanth’. But before flipping cigarettes in air, he was working with Bangalore Transport Service (BTS) as a bus conductor in Bangalore. It was after the insistence of his friend that he joined Madras Film Institute and the rest as they is history.
3. Vincent Van Gogh- missionary to painter
He got little appreciation for his work in his lifetime and his work grew in fame only after his death. But before all this, Van Gogh used to teach in England. He wanted to become a pastor and preach the gospel.
So he worked as a missionary in a mining region in Belgium. It was here that he started sketching people and did some self-portrait that would later bring him much glory.

7. Harrison Ford- carpenter to Hollywood icon
He was hired to build cabinets at the home of George Lucas, who casted him in hugely successful ‘American Graffiti’. Being paid a very low amount, Ford thought of quitting as an actor and entered into the construction business.
Four years later it was again George Lucas who approached him for the role of Han Solo for his Star Wars series.

Before building the Airtel brand he started a local business, subsequently dabbling into various forays and finally ending up with Airtel.

Before deciding to cure people with his miracles and turning water into wine, Jesus Christ was a carpenter by profession.
10. John Grisham- lawyer to novelist
Grisham’s career change is not that drastic compared to others. His background as a lawyer and Mississippi state representative actually helped him in becoming a successful fictional writer. Most of his work revolves around law and court room drama.
11. Janet Robinson- school teacher to CEO of New York Times Company
She started as a public school teacher before deciding to one of Forbes Magazine’s most powerful women in media.
12. Arnold Schwarzenegger- body builder to Mr. Universe and Mr. Olympia to actor to the Governor of California.
13. Ronald Reagan- Actor to President of the United States
He was a successful actor and served as the President of the Screen Actors’ Guild. And in In 1980, “The Great Communicator” was elected the 40th president of the United States.
