3 Easy Steps to Improve Workplace Wellbeing Today

Every day, companies across the country are paying more attention to the health and wellbeing of their employees.

“Employee health benefits have transformed from a payroll deduction that meant a plastic card sitting in your wallet to a dynamic and active range of offerings that engage employees to maximize their health,” America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) said in a recent web article.

“...Companies of all sizes, together with health plan administrators, have placed a premium on innovation. Health plans in these markets don’t just pay for patients’ medical bills. They have become partners in health.”

Facing the decision to become a “partner in health” can seem overwhelming, but it doesn't have to be. While you work to put bigger plans into action (like healthcare analytics, activity tracker programs and wellness coaching), take these three steps to start improving your workplace wellbeing:

1. Promote Activity

While many great employee wellbeing programs offer activity trackers as part of the deal, encouraging employees to start moving more doesn’t always have to be tied to a device on their wrist or in their pocket.

Headed to lunch around the corner? Recommend walking over instead of driving. Working on a tough project and need a break? Head outside for a quick walk around the block.

2. Improve Snack Options

Everyone loves to stock the break room with sweet treats, but an easy and quick push towards better wellbeing can be found by integrating fruit, nuts and healthy snacks into the mix. They’re just as easy and quick to grab on-the-go, but filled with better nutrition to fuel the day.

3. Promote Overall Wellbeing

While it’s easy to recognize that wellbeing includes what you eat and how active you are, it also includes areas like mental health and financial wellbeing. Lead by example and promote employees striving towards wellbeing in every part of their lives.

“More than ever before, employees are demanding that they are taken care of by the companies they work for,” AJ Agrawal, CEO of Alumnify, wrote. “And that is not a trend that’s going to reverse itself anytime soon.”
